This is my Nanna Smith
My Dads Mum
My Nanna Smith was like no-one else at all for me,
She was wonderful, I was born in my Nanna's house and we lived with them for a short while,
I can remember her so clearly, I can even hear her talk, she was a real warm huggable 'Grandma'.

We saw her and my Auntie Betty & Auntie Olive all the time, they used to come armed with
sweets from the local Squirrel Horn sweet factory at the top of their road,
our favorite, chewy nuts and Dads mint imperials, mmm,or we would go around
for Sunday dinner and listen to her shout at our Dad,
(that was funny to couple a 5 & 6 year olds!!!)
and call him Ronald! no-one but her did that, hehe.

Nanna was such a mild mannered lady,
I don't ever really remember her shouting at us, and yet when Saturday afternoon
came she turned into someone totally different, lol, the Boxing would be on
World of Sport and my sweet Nanna would be screaming at
the TV screen, 'get him' or something similar, it was so funny to watch.

My Nanna Smith died when I was in my last year of Primary School,
this is one of the Saddest things that has happened in my life,
I didn't see her for quite a while before she died,
I think she was too ill and my parents had so much to
deal with themselves and probably thought that
it would be better if we remembered her as she was when
she was well, I wasn't able to go to her Funeral,
I think they felt that I was too young
but it's one of the things that I regret the most,
not being able to say goodbye to her.
Me & Nanna 1962.
It's a great pity that nanna never got to see my
youngest Brother Darren and an even greater shame
that he never got to know her, my kids would have loved her
and I know she would have
loved all her great grandchildren.

Over the years I have dreamed about her, usually in troubled parts
of my life,  I dream that she sits on the end of my bed and
tells me that everything is going to be alright,
I would like to think that she's my Guardian Angel,
I can't think of anyone better to trust my well being to.
Love you Nanna, x.
